The state’s most talented photographers are currently preparing their finest images to compete for the coveted title of 2010 Epson Western Australian Professional Photographer of the Year.
Award categories include portrait, landscape, commercial, illustrative and wedding photography. There are additional categories for Student Photographer of the Year as well as an Emerging Member Award. Additional print awards (Fine Art Curator’s Award, John Whitfield-King Award, Print Handler’s Award and Best Individual Print Award) will also be given to highest scoring prints.
In 2010 there will be a number of additional categories including Portrait (Family) and Wedding Album.
Recognised leaders in the industry will facilitate the judging process including visiting photographers Adam Finch (Brisbane), Kylie Lyons (New South Wales), Ian van der Wolde (Victoria) and Andrew and Robyn Campbell (Victoria).
Entries will close on Wednesday 18th August with judging and seminars held at City West Function Centre from 23rd-27th August 2010.
Best Print judging is open to the public on Tuesday 24th August and is free of charge.
The Epson WAPPAs are a celebration of photographic excellence and represent the best of the best in the state’s professional photography.

ANZANG is focused on the unique natural heritage of the bioregion of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and the New Guinea region. ANZANG Nature Photography is an exhibition that celebrates the depth and diversity of nature in this region through the eye of the nature photographer. It focuses on enhancing a general knowledge of this extraordinary area by encouraging photography of its native flora, fauna and wilderness to stimulate interest in its ongoing conservation and protection.
Entrants do not need to be AIPP members to enter the awards but do need to be practising professionals or students.
Entries for the Canon AIPP APPAs will be received online until Wednesday 26th May 4.30pm with print submissions received up until 5.00pm, Friday 28th May 2010.
Judging for the awards will take place from 4th-7th June at Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre with the winner announced at the prestigious Canon AIPP APPAs dinner to be held at Crown Casino, Southbank in Melbourne on Monday 7th June 2010.
Now in their 34th year, the APPAs attract a prize pool of more than $60,000 in cash and prizes including the grand prize – $20,000 worth of Canon EOS professional digital camera equipment and the coveted title of 2010 Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year.
Entries are subject to three intensive days of judging by some of Australia’s most recognised photographers. Each entry is individually critiqued and scored via a scrupulous peer-review judging process to determine the highest-scoring prints across the different categories.
Last year 2,367 images were entered by 655 professional and student photographers in the renowned awards.
The Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards are a celebration of photographic excellence and represent the best of the best in Australian professional photography.

This a little different to other competitions in that rather than submit one image, we ask you to submit a three print portfolio with a min one daylight shot and one nighttime shot that captures the essence of a day in the life of Fremantle.

Hi all, you need to get your photos in for this comp by Thursday, I have extended the deadline!, I can do that because I’m collecting in the photos and also happen to be moving house this week and have next to no time to do anything. So get the images in asap, you have 3 days then it will be voted on. Remember the prize is a free Manfrotto tripod worth around $600. There haven’t been too many entries so the chances of winning are huge.
